I believe the world should have a global, elected government that acts on scientific advice to ensure the continuation of the human species on planet earth, the enforcement of human rights and the conservation of biodiversity, in that order (although it is accepted that the first depends on the third to a very great degree). In these areas the global government should have supreme power. Local governments should retain control of all other political power, subject to conformance to the global government’s directives. To maintain and promote diversity of human culture, individual countries should retain their old borders and identity, although many may be sub-divided to hand control back to smaller communities and tribes. Individual countries should not have the power to damage or allow damage to be caused to the environment or to remove human rights. |
