I see the government is thinking about building more runways at our London airports, so that more of us can fly around the world with cheap tickets.

Well, we had all this with roads, and then it seemed the government knew what to do .. stop building roads, because Britain is too small to support any more; increase petrol prices and charges for using cars, to reduce demand; improve public transport.

OK, so air travel is public transport, not private.  But it has such a high environmental cost per person per mile that it is far more damaging than alternatives like trains and ferries.

So for air travel we should be doing the same.  No new runways; increase the cost of tickets to reduce demand; improve broadband internet and telecoms so we don't need to travel so much.
